Parvo: Recommended dog vaccination

Parvo: severe and highly contagious disease caused by virus

Transmission –most severe in young puppies, affected dogs of all ages
Transmitted by contact with infected faeces and body fluids

Symptoms
Virus persists in the environment for a long time (more than 18 months)
Causes vomiting, bloody diarrhea, dehydration, severe abdominal pain and depressions

Adult dogs and puppies can die within 24 hours of getting the disease

Prevention – vaccinate your pet against PARVO

  1. As soon as you espouse a pup you must visit your veterinary doctor to know the date of the first vaccination and the subsequent booster
  2. In the first year your pup may necessitate more than one shot of vaccine
  3. In the subsequent years only one shit is needed

How Dogs Spread Diseases

Coughing & sneezing:

Virus particles are shed in the surroundings and infect another healthy dog
Eg: kennel cough, distemper

Faecal/oral:

Infection is shed in stool or vomit and multiply to healthy animal
Eg: canine parvo

Through bites:

Infected animals carry virus in spit and pass it to other by biting
Eg: rabies

Contaminated objects:

Object in the vicinity of animal gets polluted with animal excreta containing infectious micro-organisms
Eg: spread of canine parvo through contaminated utensils, bedding, kennels
Through behavior:

Mutual grooming:

Eg: feline leukaemia

Is Vaccinating The Pet A Risk

  2. But risk connected with vaccine is slight compared to risk of getting infected from fatal disease like distemper or parvo
  3. It is importance to take slight risk and go for vaccination

Does Vaccination Always Work?

In some cases your pet may not act in response to vaccination sufficiently. Superficial lack of efficacy of vaccine may be linked to several factors

  1. Interfacing affectionate antibodies
  2. Pre-existing infection
  3. Devastating amount of virus
  4. Immune system censored by stress or disease
  5. Immunity has dropped over time
  6. Drug interfering with resistant system
  7. Some breed may poorly take action to vaccination

Vaccination Scheduling Depends Upon Following Factors

  1. Age
  2. Epidemiology of the disease
  3. Protection acquired from mother to pup through milk
  4. Risk factors like infection load, severity of disease, breed, genetic make up
  5. It’s always better to seek your veterinarian’s advice to understand the vaccination schedule for your pup
